Fines Doubled for Public Transportation Mask Violations

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced in September 2021 that it would double the civil penalties for travelers who refused to follow the federal mask requirement in airports, on commercial aircraft, and across various forms of public transportation.

Under the updated penalty structure, first-time offenders could face fines ranging from $500 to $1,000, while repeat offenders could face penalties between $1,000 and $3,000.

TSA Doubles Fines for Mask Violations
